The BYU School of Music is excited to welcome three new additions to its faculty and staff.

Kandis King Taylor is a new adjunct faculty in the percussion department. She has earned a bachelor’s degree (music education, BYU), a master’s degree (percussion performance, BYU), and a PhD (music education, University of Utah). Dr. Taylor simultaneously works as a percussion professor at BYU and a band and percussion teacher in the Alpine School District. She has over 18 years of experience teaching, directing, and adjudicating for several types of ensembles in California and Utah. Dr. Taylor has received many awards including the 2024 Superior Achievement Award from the Utah Music Educators Association. Dr. Taylor composes music and has several published compositions. Janet Olsen is the new academic administrative assistant for the School of Music. Through two of her friends who are BYU faculty, Janet was recommended for the position. When asked about how music helps share the Light of Christ, Janet says, “How can it not?” She believes that music connects people spiritually and emotionally, spreading inspiration and fellowship. Janet is “immensely humbled and so grateful for [the] opportunity” to be involved with the School of Music.

Dave Egbert is the music streaming producer. He has over 20 years of experience with digital experience and systems product management. Dave has worked for BYU, Adobe, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

When asked what he has learned from his years of studying music, Williams responded, “I have learned that God answers your prayers when you are on the move. I think similarly with music, you have to be moving, you have to be creating, you have to be showing the world that you are good, because there is so much talent out there, and there is so much noise. It is important to stand out.”
